12 key pieces! {i'm baaaack!}

Hello fellow style lovers! As most of you know, after my new job started (you know, the one i posted all those fashion tips about?!), I began LIVING at my office and realized months had gone by without updating my blog. This post serves as my official RE-START! (YAY!!)

This post is all about 'must-haves' in your wardrobe. If you're like me, fashion can get overwhelming. You want to be stylish, you want to keep up with trends, but 1) we're not millionaires, 2) no one is paying us to wear their stuff (but they should!), and 3) who has the closet space?

Below are 12 things i think every perfectly styled woman has, and uses (often!)...while still looking fresh, polished, and perfectly fashioned.

1. the white (or ivory) button down blouse: I prefer a blouse for this rather than an oxford style shirt, but the style is up to you. If it has buttons and a womanly shape, it's perfect! I love this version in particular because it's soo versatile. You can tuck it into a skirt or untucked over denim shorts, and it still looks polished. it's something to invest in (this one has a great price!) that you will find yourself reaching for again and again.

2. the black pencil skirt: What can I say about this? It's flattering for literally EVERYONE, it's timeless, and there are tons of affordable options out there. If you don't have one, GET ONE!

3. the statement necklace in a bold color: This is one of my favorite accessories, and definitely a must have in your wardrobe. You can dress up anything from a solid sheath dress to a white tank with one of these babies, and you have instantly chic-ed up your outfit. Also, what you pair it with can give it a totally different vibe...so wear it often! This can also be an inexpensive way to freshen up your wardrobe.

4. Pearls: Simply stated, pearls give you a put together look, and are great when you don't know WHAT to accessorize with. When all else fails, pearls are always appropriate. I like multi-strand cheapies. (hey, they look real...)

5. a realllllly comfy tee: Dress it up, dress it down, accessorize it galore. Invest in a good one (like the one I featured), and you'll get TONS of use out of it. You want it to fit you well-not too loose, not too tight. Gray is a great neutral that goes with anything.

6. a great pair of jeans: Unfortunately, there is no 'one size fits all' for denim. A style/brand/wash that looks incredible on your best friend, probably doesn't work for you. What i've learned from experience, (and lots of What Not to Wear eppys), is this: TRY.A LOT.ON. It's no one's favorite thing to do, and can be pretty depressing actually....but remember that you are NOT the number inside the jeans. And if you love the jeans but don't think they fit you quite right...try going up/down a size! Tailoring is your friend....if they fit the hardest part of you to fit (your booty, hips, thighs?) buy them! Tailoring is inexpensive and you'll wear your favorite jeans constantly.

7. A classic bag: The one pictured above is about a zillion dollars, but what I love about it you can find in a much more reasonable price point. I love how it's black AND whiskey brown....and I love how large it is, the zipper, etc. Of course we fashionistas are going to have more than one handbag, but if you have one "go-to" bag, you'll be far less likely to keep buying bags you never use after the first week. (guilty). My fave place to snag super cute bags: TJ Maxx!

8. the black blazer: Another obvious choice. Invest in a good one of these in a neutral color, like black...then buy more in funky colors at stores like H&M & Forever 21. A black blazer can be worn over a sexy tank with jeans or with your pencil skirt and ivory blouse for the office! (see!?)

9. the black pumps: Need I say more?

10. the sandal/wedge: I chose the ones in the picture above because I absolutely love the style...it's so fresh for the season, but I also think you could wear them 5 years from now. If you're not crazy about wedges, any neutral hued sandal will do. Something you could toss in your suitcase for a beach trip and wear with just about everything. That's what we want here.

11. the ballet flats: Like the other two pairs of shoes, pick flats in a neutral color you love, that you can wear with anything. Flats are hugely back in style right now, but this classic will always be in fashion.

12. the colorful scarf: Who knew (even in Florida!) scarves would become year 'round must haves. Well, they are! For the spring & summer, choose a more lightweight, feathery material. I love the colors in the one above. It's another great piece you can add to an outfit that changes the entire look!

If you have 'must-haves' in your wardrobe, I'd love to know what they are!
